Thunder Storm Double Run–6/22/12
Today was one of my rare 2-a-day workouts.
My first workout had one purpose to go over 200 miles in my Nike Free 4.0 v2. I had 199.3 and wanted to get ready to do my 200 mile review of these shoes and actually have 200 miles on them.
I rushed out the door to get it in before the thundershower got here, which I did, my legs were really tired from yesterday’s track workout and this morning’s 3.6 mile walk. So I didn’t push too hard. Other than tired legs I felt good and only had to dodge a few raindrops and only heard thunder off in the distance.
The sun came out and I really wanted to try out my new Nike Free Run +3 to see how they felt. It seemed as though the thunderstorms had gone around and were over, so I decided to do the Middle Road loop. When I left the house it looked a little ominous off in the distance, but not really anything to worry about or so I thought.
My legs were still pretty tired and I was trying to get used to a slightly different shoe, so I didn’t push the speed and just went for working on my form.
I will go into detail in my “first run” post about the Free Run’s later on tonight.
When I got down to the Middle Rd it started to get dark and I mean really dark. Up north you could see the lightning striking, hear the thunder and it was definitely raining hard, but I was only getting an occasional sprinkle, so I still wasn’t too worried.
When I got to the school, it was getting darker, the rain was coming down a little more often and I was really starting to get concerned. I was seriously thinking about stopping at the Town Office and calling TheWife to come and get me. I get nervous when I see and hear Lightning and Thunder when I am out running for some reason or other and this wasn’t your typical 10 minute thunder storm.
As I was getting close to the Town Office, I noticed a Subaru go by that looked very familiar and TheWife pulled into the Town Office parking lot and as I came up – got out and asked if I need a ride or if I wanted to run the rest of the way home. I didn’t hesitate, I got in the car and rode the rest of the way home.
It cut my run short, but I was relieved that I got out of the storm. We were lucky, it just barely brushed us, but my StepSon-in-Law took this picture of how much rain came down about 11 miles north of where I was running at a local grocery store.

I may have cut my run a couple of miles short, but it was a lot better to be safe than sorry.
By the way, don’t I have a GREAT wife, who read my mind and came and picked me up when I needed her to, without calling or anything. .
I made both of my goals, I now have 200 miles on my Nike Free 4.0 v2 and did my first run in the Nike Free Run+3, so I get to do a little bit of writing over the next couple of days about Nike Free’s.
