Ah finally, a day where the temps were not in the single-digits and mid 20’s felt down-right balmy. Not quite shorts and tshirt weather, but a few less layers than I have been running in lately.
Today was the weekly Central Maine Strider’s “nooner” group run out of the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville.
Barry, Brian, Patrick and I showed up for the GREAT weather and we decided to do 5-6 miles up through Colby then over to Silver Street.
Yes, again I was the anchor, but I do my job well (at least until as Barry says – the last 800) and I keep the pace easy for the other guys, while it pushes me to go faster than I would otherwise.
That spike was down on Cool St. where we decided to go down and around Silver Street, instead of back up Cool.
Conditions on the run were nice in comparison to what we have had, but the little snow we had last night 2-3 inches, was just enough to be a pain in the butt and it was warm enough that it was melting. So the roads alternated between puddles, snow, white ice, which made for some interesting and wet running. My feet were pretty cold and wet by the time we got done.
I ran in the New Balance 1010’s and they really didn’t work that well in the snow/slush/ice/wet conditions that we ran in today. Plus my PF was bothering a little at the end, so I really do not know what to do with them. I don’t have any other trail/winter running shoes that fit, have an aggressive tread and I am not at all happy with how these feel on my feet. So I have some decisions to make, but will have to use them on crappy weather days, slippery conditions or trails for a while longer.
We won’t be getting together next Wednesday, a little thing called Christmas is getting in the way of running that day, but keep looking at the CMS Group page, to see if we decide to run on Tuesday or not.
If you are interested in running with us, do not worry about the pace, the faster runners can go off and do faster stuff, there is plenty of room for those that want to go slower – I know that I would enjoy being able to talk without worrying about breathing too :-).
After we got done, I went over to Champions and did another 4.25 miles on the treadmill:
- 1.0 mile @ 7.2 mph
- 1.0 mile @ 7.3 mph
- 1.0 mile @ 7.4 mph
- 1.0 mile @ 8.0 mph
- .25 mile @ 8.6 mph
I wanted to get a total of 10.0 miles in today, since I ran a fairly short one yesterday.
Overall, it was a really good day for running and I also walked the dog over 3.0 miles, snowblowed the driveway and shoveled out SD2’s driveway, so it was a pretty busy day.
