Today was supposed to be 6-8 Fartlek repeats with a comfortable warm-up and cool-down. However, with yesterday’s race and feeling a bit tired, I thought I would just do an easy recovery run.

Yeah right, once I got out there, I felt really good, (which also means that I didn’t push hard enough during the race) and after a mile, I decided to do the planned workout.

I ended up doing 9 Fartlek legs of three telephone poles each with 2 poles of rest between, yeah I lost count and had a couple of adjustments due to traffic and having to jump off into the road’s shoulder (more on that later).

No, I didn’t push real hard during the Fartlek legs, I just kept it at about my race pace yesterday and especially since I wasn’t trying to bust the bank. I felt good doing them and purposely slowed down after 4.0 miles. Then the last mile plus, (once I got on Leighton Road), I picked the pace back up a little.

Actually I just wanted to get the run over with.

Why? The snow was starting to stick to the road a little more and I could feel it under my feet, along with that certain feeling you get when you need a pit stop, well you know what I mean.

I was really glad that I wore the Pearl Izumi N1 Trails for this run, there were lots of times when I had to suddenly move to the shoulder of the road, due to the amount of traffic going by on the Middle Road. The shoulder of the road was a combination of ice, dirt, wet slush, and it pretty unpredictable about what I was going to be running in as the cars passed. Plus it was snowing pretty good, during the run, you know one of those inch of flurry afternoons, so in many spots, I could not see what I would be stepping on.

The N1 Trails did a great job of keeping me upright and out-of-the-way of traffic. They gripped solidly and gave me a lot of confidence about being able to run safely on the road shoulder than I have in a long time.

Oh yeah, I now have over 50 miles on these shoes and will be doing a full review of them shortly. As much as I have blatherd about how great they are, I have a sneaking suspicion that this review will be pretty positive for some reason or other.

Overall, a very good run that surprised me on how well I felt considering I raced yesterday and that tomorrow will be a nice easy recovery run. It will probably be on the treadmill, just because it is supposed to be down in the single-digits and I can control my pace on the treadmill and won’t be so likely to run faster than I want to.
