My last run in February was done where far too many of my runs have been this winter – on the treadmill.
I had planned on doing a run into TheWife’s work today, but with the wind chills in the single digits or below, I just couldn’t bring myself to run for almost 2 hours in those conditions. First, there were safety considerations, which take precedence over anything else and second, my heart just wasn’t in running in that kind of cold today.
So I went to Champions and ran on the treadmill – double-digits on it today was pure torture, I wanted to be outside, I didn’t want to be on the treadmill. I made it to 10.0 miles, but the 13.1 planned for today just didn’t happen. To be honest, while I felt fine physically, my mental toughness was non-existent or more likely went away once I hit 7.0 miles.
What I did:
- 1.0 mile @ 7.5 mph
- 4.0 miles @ 7.6 mph
- 4.0 miles @ 7.7 mph
- 1.0 mile @ 7.8 mph
The pace was pretty good for this distance, so the quality was better than I thought it was going to be.
Overall, I was disappointed that I didn’t push to get the 13.1 miles I had planned, but 10.0 miles on the treadmill is tough and pushing through the extra 3.1 – when my heart just wasn’t in it – is inviting bad things, so just move on Harold and look for better things in March. Although the weather doesn’t seem to be letting up at all. Looking at the extended forecast, they are predicting subzero temps next week. All I know is that I am freaking ready for warmer weather!!!!!
