So 2017 begins.

I did get a nice 5.1 mile run in, but not until I got to play with 4 more inches of snow to move around – again and roof raking on the house.
My shoulders still haven’t recovered from the 12/30 blizzard that dumped 16 inches of the white stuff, so it was a tough way to warm-up for a run, but it is what it is.
The run itself was pretty good, the legs felt tired so I didn’t try to push the pace at all during the run. I was looking for a pretty consistent effort and didn’t worry about pace.
It was in the low 30’s today and while I was running I got to thinking about how warm it felt, I only had on a ball cap, my gloves, wind pants and a light running jacket, with a couple of tech shirts on under it. Yeah, low 30’s felt pretty warm, where a month or so ago, I would have been all bundled up and whining about how cold it was.
If the roads hadn’t been so wet, I would have been better off wearing regular socks with the Puma Ignite PWRWARM, but the merino wool was nice once my feet got a little wet. I am getting used to the squishiness of the Ignite midsole and am starting to really like the feel at the slower paces I have been running lately.
It doesn’t take all that long to change your perspective about what is warm or cold, especially after running in single digits for a while.
There is just too damn much traffic on Shepard Road lately. I am not sure where it is coming from or going to, but one thing is for sure, is that sure is enough for a secondary road. The Town crew did a good job on clearing the roads, but even so if I needed to get off onto the shoulder to avoid traffic, things got a bit dicey.
The roads were wet and the shoulders were mostly slushy snow, with hidden spots of ice, so every time I had to move off the tar, I slowed down to ensure that I had good footing or that it was at least reasonable.
As usual going back up the bitch, to maintain about the same level of effort, I had to slow down. I ain’t gonna redline going up the hill after working in the yard most of the morning – it just isn’t worth it to me.
Overall, a nice run to start 2017.
Nice start!
We had about .03 inches of snow here in Berlin. It’s all gone now. But your snow, while more work, looks much prettier!
Thanks, I think at that this point, I would trade the being gone for what we have, but it should help insulate things for the next sub-zero temps that are coming later in the week 😦
