Another Treadmill Run – RunLog 3-12-17

The weather outside was almost in the 20’s, but the wind chills were still in the single-digits. When the winter started I said that I wasn’t going to run very often in those temperatures and while I did more than I expected to this winter…well I am just tired of the cold.

I really think that as I have aged, my inability to deal with the cold is the thing that I notice the most. Unfortunately, the problem is that for 3-4 months of the year up heah in Maine, it is just the way it is. Since I don’t see us moving to warmer climes anytime soon, I guess the choices are either

  • treadmill
  • suck-it-up-buttercup and get your arse outside.

Today I really wasn’t in a suck-it-up mood, which meant another day on the treadmill.

I sort of, kind of, almost wanted to do 8.0 on the treadmill to get 40 miles in for the week. So I started with that idea and put the tready on 7.0 and got going.

However, by the end of the first mile I realized that 8.0 miles was going to be a bit of a stretch. At the end of 2.0, I had to stop for an emergency pit stop and when I hopped back on, it was just a struggle for the next 3.0 miles.

I tried to trick my mind into one more mile, but I tapped out at total of 5.0 miles. The body felt fine, but the mind didn’t have it this afternoon.

  • Distance: 5.0
  • Time: 42:19
  • Pace: 8:28
  • Avg Heart Rate: 136 – this includes the bathroom break, so it is lower than it would be for a steady run
  • Average Cadence: 170

Why do I Run?

Bennie and I out for a run in January 2017

Do you know why I run?

No, not what most people think.

Some of the reasons might be:

  • weight-loss
  • improving/changing your mood
  • social engagement
  • competition
  • and so many other things that I have heard or read about why people run.

After a LOT of thought and reflection about why I run and have run all these years, I think that I have finally figured out why.

Drumroll please…. Continue reading “Why do I Run?”
