The Storm and a Nice Progression Run – RunLog 3-15-17

After yesterday’s storm, I need a little rest.

Let’s see

They closed work at noon, so after we closed, I headed for the gym to do 4.0 miles on the treadmill at a nice 7.0 mph.

The conditions were a bit nasty, but I had 2 hours to kill before I could pick-up SD2, so hell yeah I went to the gym – told you I wasn’t all there. However, the gym was pretty busy and there was still a lot of traffic so I wasn’t the only one.


The drive from Augusta to Waterville at 2:00 PM was not fun, especially when my driver side windshield wiper decided that it was time to come off – it didn’t like the icing on the windshield. I pulled over and put everything back together (it didn’t bother again luckily).

I think the driving in this stuff is tougher mentally then going out and snow blowing for 2 1/2 hours (which I did after supper in blizzard conditions), which definitely wore me out physically last night. I slept like the proverbial log. Until the snow started to come off the roof and Bennie became “shakey baby” around 4:30 AM.

Then getting up at 5:00 AM and doing that snowblowing thing all over again for another hour was tough, but if I had not done most of it the night before it would have been really miserable. I was definitely wiped physically after I got done. When you add in another trip up to Waterville, some snow scooping for a while, driving back down to Augusta by 8:00 and then home.

A nap was in the cards after I ate breakfast. That helped a great deal, but I wasn’t sure if I would run or not today, but we had noon opening at work this morning, so it gave me a little more time to rest – so I did.

When I walked out to the truck for lunch, I wasn’t into going to the gym, but I had just got a new pair of New Balance Vazee Rush v2 and really wanted to see how they felt running.

I made it to the gym.

I figured that I could start slow and see how things went. I ended up doing a nice little progression run. The legs didn’t feel too tired and I did feel pretty good despite the rest of me being tired.

  • Pace: 7:55
  • Average Heart Rate: 142
  • Average Cadence: 174

The NB Vaze Rush v2 fit well and did well at 8:00 or faster paces, felt pretty firm at the slower speeds, will be interesting to see how they do on my test course tomorrow morning. I will talk more about them then.
