Things are starting to get better with the hamstring, now to not get over-hyped and try to do more than it is ready for. Patience grasshopper – another couple of weeks and I hopefully will be back to running without discomfort again.
I am still avoiding hills and after two days of running laps in front of the house, I needed to do a different route. So I headed to Planet Fitness in Waterville to run 5-6 miles.
When I parked, I saw someone I hadn’t seen in over 10 years – Jen G. I used to work at Good Will Hinckley and worked with her for probably 10 years before I left. We caught up on what each of us had been up to and boy did it bring back a flood of memories many good and others well let’s just say I would prefer to leave them in the past. It was good to see her again.
When I got out to start my run, the body felt a little stiff. I hadn’t worn my ace bandage for the hamstring all morning and put it on before running and it took a little bit to get the leg to cooperate and loosen up enough to get my butt in gear. There wasn’t any pain, just a “knowing” that the hamstring was not quite right, but nothing bad like it has been.
Once I got things loosened up I maintained a pretty good pace through the first 4 miles then started to slow down as I came back up towards Planet Fitness. Then I started to slow down and didn’t attempt to pick up the pace at all. By the time I hit 5.0 miles, my hamstring was getting pretty tired, so I didn’t push things all that much and just trotted in to the end for a total of 6.5 miles.
One of the guys I met at the gym, had been talking to me about needing a inversion table a few weeks ago and I told him that I had one in the back of the garage that I couldn’t use. My right leg is shorter and when I hang upside down on it, the body attempts to go straight, which gave the right hip and knee some extra stretching, which wasn[t pleasant after I finished up on it. So I offered it up to him and he picked it up this afternoon. One less thing in the garage, but I do wish that it worked out for me.
Then this afternoon, I got my Father’s Day present from D2 – A pair of Topo Ultra Fly running shoes. They feel pretty good walking around the house and while they are a bit heavier than some others I have been running in, for what I want them for that is still lighter than many daily trainers that I have run in, in the past.
Tomorrow will be the first run in them – I can’t wait.
A pretty good day.
